Hue's Piece has been carefully designed to encourage access for all.

The cottage won Gold in the South West Tourism Excellence Awards for Access for All in 2008.

Hue's Piece is a peaceful wheelchair-friendly converted barn on a small and friendly family run 17th Century National Trust farm on the Killerton Estate. It is in a lovely rural location one mile from the village of Broadclyst and only 5 miles from the cathedral city of Exeter. This is usually a 15 - 20 minute drive. The coast, Dartmoor and Exmoor are all within easy reach.

The cottage has four star Visit Britain rating and has been designed to meet the National Accessibility Standards at Level 2.

There is a welcome pack file of information in the cottage in 16 and 14 pt print. We can provide larger print versions in colour contrast to suit individual guests and we always have time to talk through the facilities in person.

Hue's Piece sleeps four in three bedrooms. It has one double bedroom with antique brass bed and two single bedrooms. The double room and the larger of the singles are fully wheelchair accessible with the required turning circles.

You come straight into the living/dining room from the front door. There is no step. The parking area and access into the cottage is all level and there are no obstacles to bump into or trip over. There is laminate wood flooring which makes it easy to move any of the furniture around to suit. The table has clear space underneath and has drop down sides so that it does not obstruct access across the room when not in use. Light switches and sockets are all low-level.

We have chosen rich period colours for the walls which contrast with the white switches and sockets and door frames and though we hope that the cottage is adequately furnished, we have tried not to clutter it.

There is internet access in the living room ( and mobile phone reception is fine here).

The fully equipped kitchen includes a washing machine/dryer, dishwasher, combination microwave, cooker and separate 2 ring hob set into a lowered work surface. The sink is lowered with knee-hole access.

The bathroom has a roll in shower, natural slate flooring and under floor heating. There is a horizontal grab rail to the side of the shower, a horizontal rail on the inside of the bathroom door, a fixed rail to the left side of the toilet and a vertical rail next to the sink. We provide a wheeled shower-chair with detachable arms. A toilet frame and seat riser are also available.

Bed linen and towels are all provided and the beds will all be made up.

Hue's Piece has private access and there is plenty of level parking space directly outside the cottage. There are open views across the fields (with stunning sunsets!). There is a garden table and chairs for sitting outside and we always put some DVD's, games and books in the barn for children. A cot and high chair are available. There is also an extra folding bed.

If any additional or different or extra items are required - I invite guests to come and see what I may have in our house and will happily bring anything extra over to the cottage.

We politely as guests not to smoke in the barn.

Some guests with vehicles with very low electric ramps have preferred to park next to the back door as there is a small slope to drive up to get to the cottage's own car park and garden area at the front. We will make sure there is clear space through the farm yard if you wish to do this.
